Jake Bugg: ‘Most pop music sounds like crap’

Nottingham upstart has just kicked off a European tour with Noel Gallagher

Jake Bugg has said he doesn’t listen to pop music because most of it is “crap”.

The Nottingham newcomer has just set off on tour supporting Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and has previously bagged support slots for The Stone Roses.

When asked by The Sun why he doesn’t listen to any music currently in the charts, he replied, “because it mostly sounds like crap, to be honest.”

He added: “I just like a lot of the old stuff. That’s not to say some of the contemporary stuff that’s in the charts ain’t good as well. If it’s got a good tune then bang on. But a lot of it doesn’t sound good to me.”

Earlier this month, Bugg told NME that he was also keeping his sights set high, saying he wants to support the Arctic Monkeys on tour, in a video which you can watch below.

“I’d like to support the Arctic monkeys, that would be cool,” he said. “But I’ve already supported the Stone Roses and Noel Gallagher, which are two of the biggest ones for me. The Arctic Monkeys would be wicked, and I’m just looking forward to doing my own shows, really.”

Jake Bugg will release his eponymous debut album on October 15 and will tour the UK next month in support of the LP’s release. The tracklisting of ‘Jake Bugg’ is as follows:
