James Bay goes straight to Number One with debut album ‘Chaos And The Calm’

While Jess Glynne secures her first solo chart topper with new single 'Hold My Hand'

James Bay is Number One in the Official Album Chart this week with his debut album ‘Chaos and The Calm’.

The album was released last week (March 23). Official Chart Company data reveals that the album racked up combined sales of over 64,000 to take the top spot. ‘Chaos And The Calm’ was streamed almost 2,500 times over the past seven days.

Other new entries this week came from Laura Marling (pictured right) who entered the chart at Number Seven with her fifth album ‘Short Movie’.

Other new entries in this week’s Official Album Chart included Seasick Steve (4), The Cribs (9), The Staves (14), Courtney Barnett (16), Joe Bonamassa (27), While She Sleeps (29) and Action Bronson (35). Winner of The Voice in 2014, Jermain Jackman, missed the Top 40 entirely with his debut record.

Meanwhile, in the Official UK Singles Chart, Jess Glynne earned her first solo Number One with her single ‘Hold My Hand’. The single had combined sales of over 97,000.

‘Hold My Hand’ is technically Glynne’s third Number One, having previously reached the top spot twice last year, having featuring on Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ and also provided guest vocals on Route 94’s chart-topping ‘My Love’.
