James Bay on his love of ‘Stranger Things’ and working with Natalia Dyer

"What a great person. What a great talent"

James Bay has spoken about how Stranger Things things star Natalia Dyer came to star in his recent video for ‘Wild Love’ – as well as revealing which character he would be in the show.

Bay releases his acclaimed and eclectic second album ‘Electric Light‘ today. The lead single from the record, ‘Wild Love’, featured Bay cavorting with Natalia Dyer – who plays Nancy Wheeler in the hit Netflix sci-fi show. Bay admitted to NME that he and his girlfriend had binge-watched the show.

Asked about how she came to be involved, Bay replied: “[It] took the most human thing: picking up the phone. ‘Hello Natalia, I’m James, you might not know who I am, but I’ve got a new single coming out, I’ll send it to you, I’d love to know what you think and if you’re into it, would you be up for being in the video?’”

“I didn’t know her before, you just have to ask. We sent her the song, she came and she was awesome. I was in LA to shoot that video, she was actually in Europe at the time. She came, she said ‘I really love this song, I’d love to do it’. It was really wonderful and simple. To hang with her that whole day and work with her meant that making that video was awesome. She’s as lovely and simple in her approach in chatting to you as she is in her acting.”

Bay continued: “It doesn’t feel like overthought. She was really great and I’m a fan of what she’s done so far. What a great person, what a great talent – I’ll definitely be a fan of what she goes on to do.”

Asked about which character from Stranger Things character he would be from the show, Bay replied: “Um, maybe Will, maybe Lucas.

He added: “Maybe Will’s older brother, potentially. It’s obvious, but he’s the music geek. And he’s a bit introverted.”
