James Blake hints that Kanye West will appear on his next album

Mercury Prize-winning artist is "70 per cent" finished with his forthcoming third album

James Blake has offered an update on his third studio album and teased fans with the possibility of a potential Kanye West collaboration.

Blake claims he is “70 per cent” done with recording the album and suggested that an April 2015 release date seems likely in a new interview with the Miami New Times.

“I’m probably about 70 per cent done with it,” Blake said of the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Overgrown’. “I’m working hard and doing my best – I’m aware that people want to hear this record, so I’m not being complacent.”

“I should hope that [the new album] will be a step on, as much as the second one was to the first,” he added. “I guess I’ve taken a focus on the songwriting again, even more closely, and I’m dabbling in some different production techniques, things I’ve developed.”

On the subject of West, Blake admitted that while they have not been able to spend much time together he is confident that, schedules permitting, the US rapper will appear on his next album. Blake has previously discussed collaborating with West but never made clear where those songs would end up being heard.

“I have a lot of respect for [Kanye], for what he has been releasing for years,” Blake said. “We haven’t done a great deal of work in the same room yet, but we’ve done a few things, kind of helped each other with our own music. In terms of the actual collaboration for this record, it looks like we should be able to get something done. I know that there’s a specific song I would like him to be on, and if he can do that by the time my record comes out, that would be fantastic.”

Back in June, Blake described his new album as being “half finished” and confirmed that he’s also been collaborating with Bon Iver.

Blake released his Mercury Prize winning second album, ‘Overgrown’, in 2013 and his self-titled debut album in 2011.
