James Blake has been added to the line-up for this year’s Governors Ball festival.
The booking marks the musician’s first confirmed festival appearance of 2018, and follows a handful of headline dates on the US’s west coast last year. During those dates he previewed new music.
The full line-up for the New York festival was announced at the start of the year, with one name on its poster obscured. Blake has been confirmed to be that missing artist and joins a bill featuring the likes of Jack White, Eminem, N.E.R.D., Chvrches, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and more.
Governors Ball will take place between June 1-3 at New York’s Randall’s Island Park. Tickets are available now.
Just listened to @jamesblake version of my song ‘Vincent’ and I’m struck but what an extraordinarily good musician he is. His singing and piano playing are superb.. Thank you James for recording my song so beautifully.

On Christmas Eve, Blake shared a cover of Don McLean’s classic song ‘Vincent’. The ‘American Pie’ singer responded to the cover on Twitter, praising Blake’s talent. “Just listened to @jamesblake version of my song ‘Vincent’ and I’m struck but what an extraordinarily good musician he is,” he wrote. “His singing and piano playing are superb.. Thank you James for recording my song so beautifully.”
Meanwhile, Blake will join Kendrick Lamar as a support act on his upcoming UK and European arena tour. The run of dates kicks off in Dublin on February 7, before concluding in Berlin on March 5.
