Watch a new clip from the upcoming James Brown biopic ‘Get On Up’

Film will portray the life and times of the 'Papa's Got a Brand New Bag' singer

A new clip from the upcoming James Brown biopic Get On Up captures the young Godfather of Soul’s process in the rehearsal room. Scroll down to watch.

The minute-long video shows Brown giving instructions to his band as they struggle to grasp his unusual techniques.

“If it sounds good and it feels good then it’s musical,” asserts Brown to a quizzical saxophone player. The scene also displays some of the back-and-forth interactions between the singer and group that would become Brown’s on stage trademark.

A full-length trailer was released in April, revealing the film will examine the singer’s highs and lows. Born into poverty, as a teenager Brown spent time in a juvenile detention centre before embarking on a musical career that would span six decades.

The film stars Chadwick Boseman, who is best known for playing baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film 42. Co-stars include Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd, neo soul artist Jill Scott and former New Edition member Ralph Tresvant. In addition, Brandon Mychal Smith will star as Little Richard, with Missing star Nick Eversman playing Mick Jagger.

Get On Up is due to be released in the UK on September 26.
