James Brown widow sues for estate

Tomi Rae Hynie files legal bill for share of estate

James Brown’s widow Tomi Rae Hynie has filed a petition in South Carolina for half of the soul legend’s estate and access to their home.

Hynie says she is Brown’s surviving spouse and wants to be allowed in Brown’s house to retrieve her possessions and their five- year- old son’s.

However, Brown’s family says that Hynie was not legally married to the singer.

Hynie’s lawyer Robert Rosen said: “She’s not asking the court to live there. She has the right to go in and get her stuff – furniture, her clothing, her son’s toys.”

However, Brown’s former lawyer Buddy Dallas says the Hynie never asked for any personal items from Brown’s home.

Hynie and the son she had with Brown were left out of the singer’s will, which was filed earlier this month. BBC NEWS reports that Hynie is contesting the validity of the will.
