The star is recovering in hospital...

Doctors have said JAMES BROWN’s cancer surgery has been successful.

As previously reported, the funk legend, 71, had an operation yesterday (December 15) in an attempt to beat prostate cancer.

Doctors who treated Brown have said that he’s now “resting” after the operation. He is expected to rest for the remainder of the year and start work again in the new year.

Dr James Bennett said: “We expect a full recovery. With proper follow-up and care, we can also expect a full cure.”

Speaking before the operation, Brown said: “I have overcome a lot of things in my life. I will overcome this as well.”

Brown who has just completed a tour of Canada, is expected to release an autobiography entitled ‘I Feel Good: A Memoir of a Life of Soul’ in January and said he plans to promote the book in 2005.
