The state of South Carolina wipes the slate clean with the Godfather Of Soul...

The US state of SOUTH CAROLINA has publicly pardoned soul legend JAMES BROWN for his crimes committed over the last two decades.

The 70-year-old served a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence on drug and assault charges in 1988, then ten years later was convicted of a drug-related offence. He had previously tried to obtain a pardon two years ago, but was unsuccessful.

The BBC reports that he has now been granted a pardon by the State Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Service.

On hearing the Board’s decision, Brown sang ’God Bless America’. He issued a statement later saying: “God bless America on this beautiful day. I hope my pardon shows the youth that America is a beautiful country. I feel good!”
