British country music duo Ward Thomas are narrowly ahead of Jamie T for No 1 album this week.
Figures from chart compilers Official Charts Company show Ward Thomas’ new album second album ‘Cartwheels’ is 750 sales ahead of Jamie T’s fourth album ‘Trick’.
Ward Thomas are sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward-Thomas, who grew up on a farm in Hampshire. They got their break when, at sixth-form college they met teachers Matt Greaves and Ann Bailey, who were both session musicians. The sisters’ first album ‘From Where We Stand’ reached No 41 in 2014.
There are 12 other new entries in the album Top 40 chart, with exactly half of the Top 20 comprising of new releases ahead of the final album chart announcement for the week on Friday (September 9).
Wretch 32 is new at No 4 with ‘Growing Over Life’, followed by The Divine Comedy’s first album for six years, ‘Foreverland’, at No 5. A Day To Remember are new at No 6, followed by The Carpenters (7) Sophie Ellis-Bextor (8), King Creosote (16), Travis Scott (18), Izzy Bizu (20), Freddie Mercury (22), The Wedding Present (24), James Vincent McMorrow (32) and Angel Olsen (33).
After last week’s singles chart featured no new entries at all in the Top 40, there are seven fresh songs due this week.
Ariana Grande’s Nick Minaj collaboration ‘Side To Side’ is at No 24, followed by Zara Larsson (27), Black Eyed Peas’ new version of ‘Where Is The Love’ (30), X Factor contestant Kayleigh Marie Morgan (32), Offiah (33), Matoma (34) and Digital Farm Animals (35).
Chainsmokers’ Halsey collaboration ‘Closer’ is likely to have a second week at No 1.
