Jamie T kicks off first tour in four years with rowdy Bristol gig

The London singer-songwriter opened his first official tour in half a decade at Bristol's O2 Academy

Jamie T returned to the stage last night, playing the first date of his first official headline tour in four years at the Bristol O2 Academy.

The singer-songwriter opened the gig with a clutch of songs from his recently released third album ‘Carry On The Grudge’. Starting his 20-song set with ‘Limits Lie’ from his latest release, he followed it up with ‘Don’t You Find’ after asking the crowd “everyone alright?”.

Backed by a new band, and sporting a black cap and jacket, he ran through a set made up of tracks from his three LPs. “So you’re out for a good night tonight yeah?” said Treays ahead of ‘Operation’, gesturing to the swirling mosh-pit. “This one’s for you lot in the middle.”

Treays performed in front of a large scale copy of the ‘Carry On The Grudge’ artwork for most of the show. The crowd reaction for his new material was as strong as it was for his older material. Jamie spoke occasionally with the audience, but introduced ‘Spider’s Web’ by apologising for the presence of a ukelele. “I never thought I was gonna be in one of those bands with a ukelele in it,” he commented. “So I apologise for having for having a ukelele.”

He finished his set with an encore of ‘Zombie’ and ‘Sticks ‘n’ Stones’.

Jamie T played:

‘Limits Lie’
‘Don’t You Find’
‘Turn On The Light’
‘So Lonely Was The Ballad’
‘British Intelligence’
‘The Prophet’
‘Murder Of Crows’
‘Emily’s Heart’
‘Love Is Only A Heartbeat Away’
‘Back In The Game’
‘The Man’s Machine’
‘Spider’s Web’
‘If You Got The Money’
‘They Told Me It Rained’
‘Sticks ‘n’ Stones’

‘Carry On The Grudge’ is Jamie T’s third album and first since 2009’s ‘Kings & Queens’.
