Jamie T covers Townes Van Zandt’s ‘Waiting ‘Round To Die’ – listen

The singer-songwriter also played tracks from the newly released 'Carry On The Grudge' for BBC Radio 1

Jamie T has covered Townes Van Zandt‘s 1968 country ballad ‘Waiting ‘Round To Die’.

The musician, whose new album ‘Carry On The Grudge’ is currently at Number One in the Official Album Chart midweeks following its release on Monday (September 29), played his own version of the classic song during a session for Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 earlier this evening (October 1). Listen to the session below, which also includes ‘Zombie’ and ‘Limits Lie’ from the new LP.

Speaking about the cover, Jamie T said: “I’ve been a fan of Townes Van Zandt for a few years now and I think he’s a beautiful songwriter. And I believe this is the first song he ever wrote – its just always struck a chord with me. I hope this version is not going to annoy people too much, because I think some people would call me a heathen for covering it, but I enjoy the song and if opens people up to Townes Van Zandt, all the better.” The track begins at the 21:08 minute mark.

‘Carry On The Grudge’ is Jamie T’s third album and first since 2009’s ‘Kings & Queens’. Jamie T will celebrate the release of ‘Carry On The Grudge’ with a tiny gig at McClusky’s in Kingston, London tomorrow (October 2), ahead of 13 dates this autumn, starting in Bristol on October 30. The tour will also visit Southampton, Norwich, Newcastle, Nottingham, Leeds, Glasgow and Birmingham.
