Greetings From Beacons festival cancelled after site is branded ‘unsafe’ by authorities

Jamie Woon, Tom Vek and Jamie xx had been due to play the event

Greetings From Beacons festival, which was due to take place in Yorkshire this weekend, has been cancelled.

The event has been shelved after authorities inspected the site and have said it is “no longer considered to be safe for a public audience”. Organisers have blamed this on recent “adverse weather conditions” in the area. The festival was scheduled to take place in Heslaker Farm in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

The festival was due to be headlined by Tom Vek, Jamie Woon and Jamie xx, with Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Dry The River, Summer Camp, Mount Kimbie, Dananananaykroyd and Dels also booked to play.

Organisers have posted a statement, which reads:

It is with sincere regret that the organisers of Beacons Festival 2011 have had to announce its cancellation. Due to severe adverse weather, the event site is no longer considered to be safe for a public audience in the opinion of the authorities. Please do not come to the site, further announcements will be made later today. Please hold on to all tickets and receipts for the time being.
