Jane’s Addiction start work on new album

Frontman Perry Farrell says he's written over 60 songs for 'The Great Escape Artist' follow-up

Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell has confirmed his band are working on a new album and that they have 60 new songs in the pipeline.

The singer, who has been bed-bound in his Los Angeles home for the last two months after recently undergoing surgery, has said his band will start laying down tracks in January 2013.

He told Rolling Stone:

I haven’t written this much or been this prolific since I started when I was in my 20s. It’s been coming out fantastic. I’m super excited. Everything will really start to gel and come together probably this time next year.

The singer said he is trying to distance himself from their last album – 2011’s ‘The Great Escape Artist’ – because it was not as well received as he’d hoped.

He said: “It didn’t make a big enough splash. If it would have made a bigger splash I would have continued [its themes].”

Farrell continued: “It’s not going to be [a continuation of] ‘The Great Escape Artist’. I had thought that it would be a great idea. However, I just came up with this other twist to doing the next record. At this point I want to start fresh with a fresh angle.”
