The former Velvet Underground singer approves of the Jane's Addiction guitarist's version of 'Venus In Furs'...

LOU REED has given JANE’S ADDICTION guitarist DAVE NAVARRO his seal of approval for a cover of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND‘s ‘VENUS IN FURS’ that appears on NAVARRO’s forthcoming solo album.

Speaking exclusively to NME.COM yesterday (May 24), Navarro said: “Lou Reed said it was the best cover he had ever heard of it. It was unbelievable to hear that as a fan of his.

“I love The Velvet Underground and as an artist I have a tremendous amount of respect for Reed, so I don’t think I would have been comfortable putting it on the record if he hadn’t have approved it.”

The onetime Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist added: “I think that it’s obviously a sign of respect to do a cover of someone’s music, and I figured, ‘Why not complete the show of respect by getting the artist’s OK?'”

The track appears on ‘Trust No One’, set for release through Capitol on July 2.

Navarro, who has worked with a long list of artists over the years, ranging from Perry Farrell to Alanis Morissette, also revealed that he’d love to work now with Aphex Twin and The Chemical Brothers.

“That would be really exciting,” he said. “I can’t imagine what they would need a guitar player for, but if they did, sure, absolutely. There are no plans to at the moment, but if they appeared, I’d be really interested.”
