Japanese punks CHAI announce second album details and share new track ‘Fashionista’

The band will release 'PUNK' in March

Japanese band CHAI have announced details of their second album, ‘PUNK’, and shared a new track in ‘Fashionista’.

The four-piece, who released their debut album ‘PINK’ in October 2017, will return in March with their next effort.

In a press release, the band said of the new album’s title: “‘PUNK’ for us, of course, is not the genre of music. ‘PUNK’ to us is to overturn the worn-out values associated with ‘kawaii’ or ‘cute’ created up until this point. ‘PUNK’ is a word that expresses a strong sense of self. To be yourself more, to become the person you truly want to be, to believe in yourself in every instance!”

The album will include the new single ‘Fashionista’, which you can hear below. Of the track, the band said: “Even if you don’t dress or do your makeup like how society expects you too, you’re still a “Fashionista” by expressing yourself how you want to. You decide what you want to wear, how you want to look, what you don’t want to wear, and that is what makes you a Fashionista!”

’PUNK’ will be released on March 15, via Heavenly Recordings. The full tracklisting is as follows:

‘I’m me’

‘Curly adventure’
‘Feel the BEAT’

CHAI featured in this year’s NME 100, a list of the most essential new artists set to dominate 2019. They appeared on the list alongside the likes of Lucia, Amyl & The Sniffers, Billie Eilish, Jade Bird, Flohio, MorMor, and Octavian.
