Jay-Z has said that “Americans overreact to everything” following the scrutiny surrounding his new album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ and the multi million pound deal he struck with Samsung.
Speaking in a new interview conducted with his own Life and Times website, the rapper opens up about his new album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ as well as his connection with New York, his feelings on the way the music industry is changing and his philosophy on collaborating with other artists.
Chatting backstage at the New York Yankees stadium, Jay-Z is challenged on his deal with Samsung. “In America we have an overreaction to everything,” he says. “I’m not concerned with noise because I’m playing the long game. I see 10 years down the road and then we’ll really be able to judge the album for what it is.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Jay Z claims that Justin Timberlake has delivered his best ever vocal on their track ‘Holy Grail’. “Just by the nature of the song, it dictated that he stepped out of his comfort zone. He has done a million great vocal performances but, in my opinion, that is his greatest vocal performance.”
A second part of the interview will be live on the Life and Times site today (July 24).
Jay Z will tour the UK later this year. The rapper will play:
Manchester Arena (October 3, 4)
Dublin O2 Arena (6)
Birmingham NIA Arena (8)
London O2 Arena (10, 11, 12, 14)
