Less than a year since his last album was released, hip-hop hero Jay-Z returns with another...

Jay-Z has announced details of his fifth album, which is to be released a mere ten months after his last one.

Jay-Z – real name Shawn Carter – is to release ‘The Dynasty: Rock Familia 2000’ on his own Roc-A-Fella imprint through Def Jam on October 31. The rapper’s last album, ‘Vol. 3… The Life & Times Of S. Carter’ was released in the US on December 27, and in the UK in February of this year.

The rap star has completed the album despite numerous distractions. In December 1999, he was accused of wounding record executive Lance ‘Un’ Rivera in a knife attack at the New York launch party for Q-Tip‘s solo LP, ‘Amplified’. Carter appeared at a preliminary hearing, but the case has yet to come to trial.

Earlier this year, Roc-A-Fella released albums by Memphis Bleek and Amil; Bleek’s second album, ‘The Understanding’, is due out on November 21.

Jay-Z has also somehow found time to become involved in making a movie, ‘Paid In Full’, titled after the classic ’80s rap single and album by Eric B & Rakim. The film is a documentary focusing on real-life gangsters in New York. And just to keep him on his toes, he is in Los Angeles this week making a video for ‘The Dynasty…’s first single, ‘Give It To Me Baby’.
