The Marina Abramovic Institute has issued a full and frank apology to Jay-Z after Marina Abramović said she was “pissed off” with the rapper and suggested he had not donated money to them after saying he would.

As reported, performance artist Abramovic criticised the rapper in a new interview after collaborating with him for his ‘Picasso Baby’ music video in 2013.

The hip-hop star was inspired by Abramovic’s ‘The Artist Is Present’ project for the clip, which featured Abramovic herself. She claimed that he “used her” for promotion and failed to donate money to her foundation, despite that being a condition for her involvevement.

However, a spokesperson for the Institute has now come forward and confirmed that Jay Z did donate money to them but that Abramović was not made aware of this at the time. “We are sincerely sorry to both Marina Abramović and Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter for this, and since then we have taken appropriate actions to reconcile this matter,” reads the official statement.
