An all-star cast launched Jay Z‘s new artist-owned music streaming service in New York earlier today (March 30).

Jay Z, Kanye West, Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, Jack White, J Cole, Nicki Minaj, Deadmau5, Daft Punk and Alicia Keys all attended the live-streamed launch, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Calvin Harris present via live video link-up. All those present then signed Tidal’s charter, following a speech made by Keys, in which she stated: “Our goal is simple – we want to create a better service and experience for the user and the artist.” An introduction by a Tidal team member said that Tidal was “the future of music”.

Earlier today, a promo video for the service was released, which features all the above artists. Watch the clip below.

Jay Z’s Project Panther Bidco company recently acquired Tidal from its Norwegian parent company Aspiro for 464 million kroner (about £47 million). Tidal Hifi offers more than 25 million songs and 75,000 music videos to more than half a million subscribers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland.

In a statement, Jay Z’s company said of the purchase: “Panther believes that the recent developments in the entertainment industry, with the migration to music and media streaming, offers great potential for increased entertainment consumption and an opportunity for artists to further promote their music.”

Earlier today Kanye West, Beyoncé, Jack White, Rihanna, Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Coldplay all changed their social media profile pictures to a turquoise square in support of the launch. See tweets below.
