Jay-Z has been accused of being a time traveller because of a newly discovered photo from 1939 taken in Harlem, New York, of a man who bears a striking resemblance to the hip-hop star.
The picture, which you can see above, was posted on the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center blog and features a man in a flat cap who looks a lot like Jay-Z leaning against a railing. Reddit and Buzzfeed both reposted the picture, jokingly asking if Jay-Z is either a time traveller or a vampire.
The Schomburg Center blog posted the picture next to the caption:
Does the man on the right remind you of someone? Perhaps it was his great-grandfather taking a break in Harlem in 1939. The photographer, we know for sure, was Sid Grossman. If you can put a (real) name on the young man, let us know.
The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann recently praised Jay-Z‘s work on the new film’s soundtrack by insisting that he “totally nailed” it. Luhrmann recruited the rapper as the executive producer of the soundtrack album – a role which saw him oversee the film’s score, which features contributions from the likes of Lana Del Rey, The xx, Jack White, Beyoncé and OutKast’s Andre 3000.
In an interview with MTV, the filmmaker said: “He totally nailed that the book was aspirational,” he added. “That the book was really about, if you’ve got a cause, you can move towards a green light. That you don’t reach it isn’t the point; that you aspire is.”
