Jay-Z, The xx, Karen O make longlist for Best Original Song at the 2014 Oscars

A list of 75 artists in the running for an Academy Award has been released

M83, Jay-Z and The xx have all gained spots on the longlist for Best Original Song at next year’s Academy Awards.

The round-up of 75 songs celebrates the the top music written for films this year.

The Great Gatsby has the most nominated tracks, with five songs from the Baz Luhrmann film on the list. The xx’s ‘Together’ made the cut, as did Jay-Z’s ‘100$ Bill’, along with Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Young and Beautiful’ and Florence And The Machine‘s ‘Over The Love’.

Elsewhere, Karen O made it on to the list for the second year in a row for ‘The Moon Song’ from Her, M83 bagged a spot for their work on Oblivion and Pharrell Williams had success with Despicable Me 2‘s ‘Happy’.

The tracks will be whittled down to a shortlist, announced on January 16, before the 86th annual awards ceremony on March 2.

As of yet, there’s no indication as to how long the list will be. Only two songs made the cut in 2012. Five were selected this year when Adele picked up the award for her Skyfall theme, beating Rick Ross’s ‘100 Black Coffins’ from Django Unchained.
