"We were using our art almost like a therapy session," the rapper says
Whispers of a joint LP from the pair have circulated for some time, with rumours suggesting that something was in the works during the recording of ‘4:44’ and ‘Lemonade’.
Now, in an interview with T Magazine, Jay-Z has revealed that the couple had started working together on a record.
When asked about specific plans to collaborate, Jay-Z said: “It didn’t happen that way. We were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together. And then the music she was making at that time was further along.
“So her album came out as opposed to the joint album that we were working on.”
Jay-Z went on to say that they “still have a lot of that music”, adding: “There was never a point where it was like, ‘I’m making this album.’ I was right there the entire time.”
Off the back of her groundbreaking record ‘Lemonade’, Beyonce was recently revealed as the highest paid female musician of 2017, knocking Taylor Swift from the top spot.
According to Forbes, the singer earned a staggering £79 million from both record sales and her massive ‘Formation’ world tour, which concluded in October 2016.
Elsewhere, Jay-Z is leading the way for this year’s Grammy Awards, with a total of eight nominations.
