Jay Z and Coldplay to headline inaugural Global Citizen Festival in India

The event will take place in Mumbai on November 19

Jay Z and Coldplay have been announced as the headliners of the inaugural Global Citizen Festival in India.

The Global Citizen Festival has staged an event in New York City annually since 2012, and this year will see the festival travel to India for the first time. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is the creative director of the event.

As Rolling Stone reports, Jay Z and Coldplay have been confirmed Рalong with Demi Levato Рto be performing at the one-day event. The three artists will join Oscar-winning Indian composer A. R. Rahman, as well as local musicians and Bollywood celebrities, in appearing at the festival, which takes place in Mumbai on November 19.

The festival will use crowdfunding to raise funds for orphaned children, as well as funding the building of 25 children’s homes across the country.

Global Citizen India spokesperson Arnav Sahni said in a statement: “Our festival combines music with social causes that have an impact and Miracle Foundation has had a huge impact on vulnerable children. Fueled by Ketto’s remarkable crowdfunding platform, we hope to raise money and awareness so the Miracle Foundation can continue to do their inspirational work.”

The special Mumbai gig will follow Coldplay’s show at the London Palladium on Friday (November 11), which was announced earlier today. Fans can win tickets for the intimate gig through a competition run by Absolute Radio.
