Album from former Rilo Kiley singer will be her third solo effort
Jenny Lewis will release a new album in July.
The former Rilo Kiley singer’s third solo album will be called ‘The Voyager’ and will be available in July, although the exact release date is yet to be confirmed.
It follows six years after her second solo album, 2008’s ‘Acid Tongue’, and four years after ‘I’m Having Fun Now’, her album with Jonathan Rice released as Jenny And Johnny. Her solo debut ‘Rabbit Fur Coat’ arrived in 2006, and was billed as Jenny Lewis And The Watson Twins.
Most recently, Lewis contributed a song to the latest soundtrack of HBO series Girls called ‘Completely Not Me’. In an interview with Charleston City Paper earlier this month, Lewis said she took time off to process some recents events in her personal life — including the death of her father — before returning to songwriting.
“You’ve experienced these feelings and it feels cheap to write about them right away, so it kind of took me a moment to meditate on that,” Lewis said. “I have no problem exploiting my life for my work — it’s what I’ve made my whole career on — but sometimes it takes a minute to figure out how you feel.”
Lewis was formerly lead singer of Rilo Kiley. The LA-based four-piece released their debut ‘Take-Offs And Landings’ in 2001, followed by ‘The Execution Of All Things’, ‘More Adventurous’, ‘Under The Blacklight’, their major-label debut, and finally ‘Rkives’ in 2013, a compilation of B-sides and previously unreleased recordings. The band have been on hiatus since 2011 and are believed to have split.
