In a move that has surprised many, soul music has finally being acknowledged by the BRIT AWARD powers that be.
Soul music fans still recall the shocking day when Natalie Imbruglia won the Best International Female Solo Artist accolade over Lauryn Hill. Hopefully those days are over, but while nmesoul.com refuses to make any predictions, this year’s award-winning lottery could be good news for soul music fans.
For the first time since the Awards’ inception, several soul music stars have been nominated. Unfortunately you will have to wait until February 26 to see if any of the acts listed below will win in their respective categories, but their nominations – especially Jill Scott, who was unknown a year ago – is further confirmation of the impact urban music is having on a once mainstream reserve:
