The brand new Jimi Hendrix single ‘Somewhere’ was played on the radio for the first time this morning (Jan 7) with fans reacting positively to the previously unheard song.
The track, which will be released as part of ‘People, Hell & Angels’, the forthcoming album of previously unreleased studio recordings, was played by DJ Shaun Keaveny on his BBC 6Music programme. Fans reacted in an overwhelmingly positive fashion online with many saying the song was precisely what they needed to kickstart their working week. Fans of Hendrix, Pulled Apart By Horses, wrote on Twitter: “Not entirely sure how this ‘new’ Jimi Hendrix tune has been kept under wraps all this time but, by the Christ, it’s a stone cold banger!”
The album will be released on March 4, 2013 and features 12 ‘new’ songs, which see Hendrix experimenting with horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar. A version of ‘Somewhere’ can be heard on the official Jimi Hendrix website alongside an interview with producer Eddie Kramer.
The tracklisting for ‘People, Hell & Angels’ is:
‘Hear My Train A Comin”
‘Let Me Move You’
‘Hey Gypsy Boy’
‘Villanova Junction Blues’
The tracks were recorded in 1968 and 1969 and were intended for ‘First Days Of The New Rising Sun’, the follow-up to ‘Electric Ladyland’ that Hendrix was working on when he passed away in 1970.
