A brand new Jimi Hendrix box set featuring previously unreleased material is scheduled for release in the autumn.
According to the official Jimi Hendrix website, [url=]www.jimi-hendrix.com, the set, provisionally titled ‘The Jimi Hendrix Experience’, will span four discs and 56 songs – the entirety of the guitarist’s career, starting with the band’s fourth ever public appearance and ending with Hendrix‘s final studio sessions at Electric Lady Studios in 1970.
The set is to be produced by long time associates Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer, and John McDermott, and will feature alternative versions of tracks including ‘Purple Haze’, ‘Little Wing’, ‘Spanish Castle Magic’ and ‘Freedom’ as well as brand new, unreleased material and live performances.
Speaking on the Hendrix website about the project, co-producer Eddie Kramer said: “We kept finding stuff that was really good and putting it aside for the box. I am extremely pleased with the music we have chosen. Jimi is at the top of his game throughout. It is a representation of how one can express one’s self to the fullest, using every technique known to man and more. It’s just stunning, that’s all I can tell you!”
A spokesperson for Hendrix told nme.com that the set has a provisional release date of September in the UK, and more details will become available nearer the time.
