The fourth annual gong was given to the band at a ceremony in Cardiff
Joanna Gruesome have won this year’s Welsh Music Prize.
The gong was given to the band’s debut LP ‘Weird Sister’ at a ceremony which took place earlier today (November 28) in Cardiff. The annual award, now in its fourth year, celebrates the finest Welsh music of the year as well as music made by Welsh people around the world. Created by Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens in 2011, previous winners have included Gruff Rhys and Future Of The Left.
Joanna Gruesome won form a shortlist which also included Manic Street Preachers‘ ‘Futurology’, Gruff Rhys’ ‘American Interior’, Cate Le Bon’s ‘Mug Museum’, Future Of The Left’s ‘How To Stop Your Brain In An Accident’ and Samoans’ ‘Rescue’.
Ahead of their win, Joanna Gruesome tweeted to say they would be giving the prize money to Manic Street Preachers if they were to triumph later in the evening.
