Joanna Newsom performed a cover of Harry Nilsson’s ‘He Needs Me’ during a Los Angeles screening of Punch-Drunk Love.
The song appeared on the soundtrack of the 2002 film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Anderson recently worked with Newsom on the music videos for ’Sapokanikan’ and ‘Divers’ from her new album. Newsom also appeared in, and narrated, Anderson’s 2014 film Inherent Vice.
The screening, which took place at LA’s Ace Hotel, featured a live score by Jon Brion and the Wordless Music Orchestra, who Newsom joined for ‘He Needs Me’, reports DIY.
Last month, Newsom performed at a Fleetwood Mac tribute concert for charity together with Courtney Love, Mark Ronson and Carly Rae.
The Californian singer-songwriter is set to headline End Of The Road in September, her only UK festival appearance of the summer.
Newsom released her fourth album ‘Divers’ in October.
