JOEY RAMONE is battling cancer in a NEW YORK hospital.
The 49-year-old singer of legendary New York punk act The Ramones is suffering from lymphoma. His spokesman Arturo Vega told the New York newspaper Daily News that “Joey watched a tape of ‘The Sopranos’ on Wednesday. He’s doing better and better.”
The singer, real name Jeffrey Hyman, formed the punk band in 1974 with John Cummings (Johnny Ramone) and Douglas Colvin (Dee Dee Ramone).
Though they were at their peak in the late ’70s and early ’80s with songs such as ‘Sheena Is A Punk Rocker’ and ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’, they continued touring up until the late ’90s and released their last studio album, ‘Adios Amigos’, in 1995.
