John Legend has given a special rendition of the Toys ‘R’ Us jingle for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Click above to watch.
The singer was responding to Jamie Foxx’s appearance on the chat show earlier this week (May 19), when during a segment called Wheel of Musical Impressions the actor sang the tune – which famously appeared in an eighties television ad for the toy store – in the style of Legend.
Foxx also took the opportunity to poke fun of the singer for his onstage attitude and calm demeanor. Legend later tweeted the clip alongside the caption “Ha!”.
The ‘Ordinary People’ performer recently launched Free America, an initiative that seeks to end mass incarceration in the US. To promote the cause, Legend has been performing at prisons around the country, and when picking up the award for Best Original Song for ‘Glory’ at the Academy Awards with rapper Common earlier this year, he poignantly remarked during his speech: “We know that right now the struggle for freedom and justice is real. We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today than were under slavery in 1850.”
