The airport in JOHN LENNON‘s home city of LIVERPOOL is to be named after the late star, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.
The airport, currently called Speke, will now be known as Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The rare honour, usually reserved for heads of state, will be bestowed on Monday (July 2).
The late Beatle‘s widow Yoko Ono will be in Liverpool on Monday to receive an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from Liverpool University. At press time it is not known if she will also mark the name change at a ceremony at the airport. A statement is expected later this afternoon from airport authorities.
Paul McCartney currently in Los Angeles working on a new album, could not be reached for comment. His spokesperson told NME.COM he was unsure if Macca had heard the news yet, but when he did he would undoubtedly think it “pretty fab”.
