A chilling photograph marking the death of John Lennon has fetched almost £9,000 at auction in LONDON.

The photograph titled ‘Season Of Glass’ was taken by his widow Yoko Ono. It depicts John Lennon‘s trademark spectacles, splattered by blood, beside a glass of water.

The photograph was taken in their New York apartment following his assassination in 1980. Only six copies were printed in 1994, four of which were given to close friends of the couple, with one remaining with Yoko Ono.

The final print was exhibited in New York and later sold to a fundraiser for the Tokyo based charity ‘Artist Residencies of Tokyo’, who auctioned the picture to raise funds for charity.

The sale took place yesterday (April 17), and fetched £8,813. Other Beatles items were for sale – some ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ footage sold for £5,288.
