John Lydon, Brandon Boyd’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ production cancelled

The all-star musical was set to begin its run of dates in New Orleans on June 9

A touring stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar, set to star former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon and Incubus’ Brandon Boyd, has been cancelled at the last minute.

Lydon was to appear as King Herod in the touring production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, alongside Incubus‘ Brandon Boyd – pictured – as Judas and Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams as Mary. ‘N Sync’s JC Chasez was to play Pontius Pilate. The 50-date tour was due to start on June 9 in New Orleans, but Entertainment Weekly reports that the tour is now off.

A statement posted on the production’s website posted yesterday reads: “Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, announced today the cancellation of the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour. The tour was scheduled to kick off in New Orleans on June 9. All purchased tickets will be refunded.” No reason has been given for the cancellation.
