STARS TURN OUT FOR JOHN PEEL’S FUNERAL

A host of musicians including JACK and MEG WHITE have arrived in BURY ST EDMONDS for the funeral of JOHN PEEL.

The DJ will be laid to rest at St Edmundsbury Cathedral at a public service starting at 1pm today, followed by a private service.

As well as White Stripes, musicians arriving to pay tribute include Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey from Pulp, Karl Hyde from Six By Seven, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, Stuart Murdoch from Belle And Sebastian, [/a], Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayres from [a] and [a][/a]’ Fergeal Sharkey.

Radio 1 colleagues Annie Nightingale, Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley have arrived, as have comedian Griff Rhys Jones and family neighbour Delia Smith.

Hundreds more mourners are queuing outside the cathedral to pay their respects to the broadcaster, who died on October 25 of a heart attack. He was 65.
