Johnny Marr performed The Smiths’ ‘Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before’ on The Tonight Show last night. See below to watch now.
Marr, who is currently on tour in the US, also performed solo single ‘Easy Money’ while appearing on the nightly chat show, which is hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
The guitarist turned frontman arrived in America off the back of a UK tour which saw him joined by Noel Gallagher during an appearance at 02 Academy Brixton in London. Gallagher played both ‘How Soon Is Now?’ and a cover of Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust For Life’ with Marr on the night.
It was recently revealed Marr will appear on Gallagher’s forthcoming second solo album ‘Chasing Yesterday’, which will be released in March. Marr said he hadn’t heard the track, ‘The Ballad Of Mighty I’, prior to going into the studio to record his part as he wanted to react to the music rather than have a pre-prepared idea.
Speaking to NME, he said: “I just wanted to play and improvise and react. That invariably means there are going to be some mistakes, but that’s not a big deal. I know I can play. He knows I can play, and your initial response to something is definitely worth recording. If it doesn’t work, it’s just a few megabytes on a hard drive. If it works, it will likely be brilliant. You just have to lose the fear of making a mess of it, so it’s definitely worth the risk of looking foolish.”
