Johnny Marr to headline Manchester City season launch party

NME's Godlike Genius will appear at Manchester Central on August 14

Johnny Marr is set to headline Manchester City’s season launch party – City Live.

The event will take place at Manchester Central on August 14 and will be hosted by comedian Jason Manford. The event will act as a precursor to the new football season with fans of the club able to meet the players, including new signings Bacary Sagna and Fernando.

City Live will also see the club’s 2013-2014 end-of-season awards being presented to players, including Player Of The Year and Moment Of The Season.

Commenting on City Live, Johnny Marr said in a statement: “Like Manchester, City has always been a club steeped in music. Going right back to Maine Road, there was always a couple of musicians or bands from across the City in the stands. It’s the same today at the Etihad.”

Tickets for City Live range from £15 to £25 and are available online at or by telephone on 0161 444 1894.

Johnny Marr will embark on a UK tour this October, taking his 2013 solo album ‘The Messenger’ on a lengthy jaunt around the country, including a homecoming show at Manchester’s O2 Apollo on October 25. The tour starts in Lincoln on October 13 and concludes in Leeds 16 days later.
