Julian Casablancas plays secret show in Brooklyn DIY venue

The Strokes frontman was joined by his new band The Voidz

Julian Casablancas played a secret show in Brooklyn, New York, last night (September 22) with his new band The Voidz.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, the band were billed as Rawk Hawks at the event at DIY space Shea Stadium, and played after Naranja Bausch – who was in fact Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange. Both acts were supported by opening band Big Ups.

Casablancas was joined by his new band The Voidz, with whom he will release his forthcoming second solo album ‘Tyranny’ on October 13.

Earlier this month, Casablancas appeared to rule out any further live shows from The Strokes, saying that touring is “a great way to destroy a band”.

Saying cryptically that the band “wasn’t so equal, but it was the illusion of equal, so I think it fucked with everything,” he added: “A band is a great way to destroy a friendship, and a tour’s a great way to destroy a band.”

However, he has previously said that The Strokes could start work on the follow-up to their 2013 album ‘Comedown Machine’ early next year. “In January we might meet up and work on some ideas. Everyone is psyched. Everything is in a really cool place.”
