Justin Bieber speaks out about his arrest in 2014

He also spoke at length about his faith

Justin Bieber has spoken publicly about his arrest in Miami.

The Canadian pop star – who recently topped the UK Singles Chart for the second week running – was arrested for drunk driving and driving without a valid license in January 2014, and spent a night in jail. He had been pulled over after his yellow Lamborghini was spotted as one of two vehicles racing at 4.09am.

He was released on a $2,500 (£1,505) bond, alongside his friend Khalil Amir Sharieff, whose bond was set lower, at $1,000 (£602).

Speaking to Complex recently, Bieber said, “The police just wanted press. I never was speeding; I never was drag racing.

“The cop supposedly wanted to be famous for arresting celebrities, and someone had heard him say that prior to that. I wasn’t drinking. I blew the thing and I had 0.01. I was like, “Officer, what’s going on? What did I do?” And he was like, “Put your hands on the hood!” I was like, what? I lifted my hands and I was like, “What do you mean, what’s going on?” He was like, “I told you, put your hands on the hood! Now you’re under arrest for resisting arrest! I was just like, Oh they’re trying to get me right now at any cost.”

Speaking about his experience in jail overnight, he said, “It’s freezing; it’s uncomfortable; there are people in there you just don’t want to be around. I had people who were yelling at me. They were saying, “Bieber! We fuck with you, bro! We love you! Aye! Keep your head up, bro!” It was kind of funny to hear that, especially from cats in jail.”

Bieber also spoke about the Big Bang in regards to his religious faith. “I’m the type of dude who always wants to figure it out,” he said. “Science makes a lot of sense. Then I start thinking — wait, the “big bang.” For a “big bang” to create all this is more wild to think about than thinking about there being a God. Imagine putting a bunch of gold into a box, shaking up the box, and out comes a Rolex. It’s so preposterous once people start saying it.”

He continued, “I love talking about my faith. I think that with Christians, they’ve left such a bad taste in people’s mouths. Just like, overly pushy with the subject, overly churchy and religious. People, as soon as they start hearing me saying I’m a Christian, they’re like, “Whoa Justin, back up, take a step back.” Also, I do not want to shove this down anyone’s throat. I just wanna honestly live like Jesus. Not be Jesus — I could never — I don’t want that to come across weird.

“You don’t need to go to church to be a Christian,” he added. “If you go to Taco Bell, that doesn’t make you a taco.”

Meanwhile, Bieber recently sent a series of Snapchat videos to fans directing them on how to behave when asking for photos with the star.

He said: “The way you ask or approach me when you want a photo with me is going determine if I take a photo or not.”

In the Snapchat clips, Bieber continued: “If I’m walking somewhere or arriving somewhere and you guys are asking me to take a photo, if I don’t respond, if I continue to keep walking, the likelihood is that I probably don’t want to take a photo at that moment. If you start screaming louder that’s not going to make me want to take a photo more.”

The singer added: “I can’t enjoy it if I’m not feeling there’s any respect given to me that moment. Usually the chances are I’ll take a photo but if perhaps I don’t, or I’m not in the mood to take a photo that moment, please just respect me and just treat me the way you want to be treated.

“Honestly I’d rather stand there and talk to you for five minutes and not take any photos… just have that moment without the chaos. It’s like, why did you travel to see me in the first place, was it really to see me or was it to get that moment of you seeing me so you could tell people about it?”
