Lena Dunham denies accusing Justin Bieber of promoting rape culture with new song

'Girls' creator appeared to criticise Bieber in a previous social media post

Lena Dunham has denied criticising a Justin Bieber lyric in a recent tweet.

The Girls creator appeared to be alluding to the pop star’s new single ‘What Do You Mean?’ when she tweeted, “Let’s do away with pop songs where a girl nods yes when she means no and vice versa, k?”

In ‘What Do You Mean?’ Bieber sings, “What do you mean?/When you nod your head yes/But you wanna say no/What do you mean?”.

However, Dunham has now taken to Instagram to post a composite photo that compares herself to a young Bieber. She writes in the caption, “How could anyone think I have an issue with Bieber?”

‘What Do You Mean?’ was produced by Skrillex and is the first to be released from Bieber’s forthcoming new studio album, his first record in three years.

The as-yet-untitled LP is expected on November 13 and will feature collaborations with Drake, Diplo, plus more work with Skrillex.

Justin Bieber performed at the MTV Video Music Awards over the weekend (August 30), where he appeared to break down in tears.
