Justin Bieber to miss 2018 Grammys ceremony despite being nominated

The singer is up for three awards at the ceremony, which will be held in New York City on Sunday (January 28)

Justin Bieber is reportedly set to miss the 2018 Grammy Awards this weekend despite being nominated in a number of awards categories.

The singer has been recognised for his work on the remix of Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s smash hit ‘Despacito’, with the song being nominated for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

However, Bieber is set to miss the ceremony – which will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday night (January 28) –  as he is busily working on his next music project.

As TMZ reports, Bieber is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to his 2015 album ‘Purpose’ and doesn’t want to make any more public appearances until after the new record is finished.

Last year, Bieber missed the Grammys over his reported objection to the ceremony’s ‘representation’ – a stand which was also apparently taken by Kanye West and Drake, who both boycotted the event.

Sunday’s ceremony will see a public demonstration from a number of musicians in support of the #TimesUp movement, with stars including Kelly Clarkson, Dua Lipa and Halsey set to wear a white rose.
