Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson to star in ‘The War Of The Worlds’ UK tour

Singer to star alongside a hologram of Liam Neeson in the stage adaptation of Jeff Wayne's classic

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has signed on to star in the stage adaptation of The War Of The Worlds later this year.

The singer, whose band released their fourth studio album ‘The Future Is Medieval’ last year, will play the part of The Artillery Man in Jeff Wayne’s alien invasion epic. The part was played by David Essex in the original stage adaptation.

Wilson will star alongside former We Will Rock You star Kerry Ellis and a hologram of actor Liam Neeson, who plays The Journalist.

Speaking about the show, Wilson said: “Jeff Wayne’s The War Of The Worlds is part of the musical landscape and I have always been a fan. It has long been held up as a fantastic piece of music and it is close to so many people’s hearts. It is daunting to do because people love it so much. But I want to start doing things that scare me. I got the email from Jeff Wayne inviting me to be a part of it and that is not something you can say ‘no’ to.”

Wilson will tour with the production across the UK and Ireland throughout December, playing 16 shows in all. He will then tour across Europe with the show.
