Kano says The Rock wanted to see him live but might have mistaken him for Kanye

Grime star graces cover of this week's NME

Kano has told NME that wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson once got in touch about attending one of his live shows.

Appearing in this week’s NME, the Mercury-nominated grime MC talks new album ‘Made In The Manor’, the genre’s revival and how he thinks The Rock mistook him for Kanye West.

“The Rock got in touch! He was gonna fly from Barcelona to Glastonbury to watch me, but we didn’t get the email until after the show,” Kano says.

“Maybe he read my name wrong, it’s Kano, not Kanye!”

Elsewhere in the interview, Kano also speaks about the importance of staying true to his roots and “inspiring the youth” of his area, even after his huge success.

“It’s really important to me to still spend time in the ends – I’m there all the time,” Kano tells us. “I do my videos there, I still talk about it. It’s important for me to be an inspiration to the youth of the area and not just leave now I’ve blown up.

He added: “I have to admit, I did think: ‘Oh fuck, this isn’t really grime. What if no one gives a fuck?’ But I like making life difficult for myself.”
