Kano: ‘It’s important for me to be an inspiration to youth in my area’

The grime hero talks to NME about 'Made In The Manor'

Kano has spoken out about the importance of staying true to his roots and ‘inspiring the youth’ of his area, even after his huge success.

Appearing in this week’s NME, the Mercury-nominated grime icon opens up about how important East Ham was in the making of ‘Made In The Manor’ and how important the people from his old stomping ground are to him.

“It’s really important to me to still spend time in the ends – I’m there all the time,” Kano tells us. “I do my videos there, I still talk about it. It’s important for me to be an inspiration to the youth of the area and not just leave now I’ve blown up.

He added: “I have to admit, I did think: ‘Oh fuck, this isn’t really grime. What if no one gives a f**k?’ But I like making life difficult for myself.”
