Deadmau5 says Kanye West needs to ‘save money for an education’ following piracy row

Rapper criticised after appearing to illegally download music software

Deadmau5 has responded to recent tweets by Kanye West that mocked his signature mouse-head stage costume. It is the latest in a recent beef between the two acts.

The pair recently fell out publicly after EDM producer Deadmau5 called West out for appearing to use a piracy website to download the Serum music-editing software, which is produced by Xfer Records, a label co-founded by Deadmau5 himself.

The rapper inadvertently revealed that he had visited popular torrenting site The Pirate Bay in an internet tab when he tweeted a screenshot of a Sufjan Stevens song. West’s camp later denied that the computer in question was his own.

West, who like Deadmau5 is an artist stakeholder in Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal, later trolled Deadmau5 by asking how to pronounce his name and if he performed at kids birthday parties.

Deadmau5 has now fired back, writing on Twitter: “Imma let you finish…. But you should probably be saving the money for a 4th grade education.”

He later added: “I can out idiot an idiot. It’s what I do.” See those tweets below.

The rapper’s camp confirmed to Pitchfork that the laptop in question in the original piracy tweet does not belong to him. The tweet was reportedly intended as a joke, referring to the rampant piracy of ‘The Life of Pablo’.
