Kanye West has given a head-nod to Sufjan Stevens as he records his new album, which is currently titled ‘Turbo Grafx 16’ and is expected to be released as early as the summer.
The rapper only released his latest album ‘The Life Of Pablo’ last month (February 14), but has reportedly already started work on its follow-up. West was recently pictured in the studio with producer Mike Dean, collaborator Kid Cudi, plus others.
Now West has uploaded a screenshot of himself listening to singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens’ track ‘Death With Dignity’ on Youtube. A caption reads: “Day 3”, suggesting that the rapper is three days into recording his new LP.
‘Death With Dignity’ features on Sufjan Stevens’ seventh album ‘Carrie & Lowell’, which was released in March 2015. Read the NME review here.
It is not known whether Stevens will be a direct influence on West’s new album or whether they are working together or not. NME has approached a press representative for Sufjan Stevens for a comment.
Taking to Twitter recently, West revealed that his album’s “nerdy” title is a homage to his favourite games console as a kid.
West’s most recently album ‘The Life Of Pablo’ went through several different working titles, including ‘Waves’, ‘Swish’ and ‘So Help Me God’. He has likewise hinted that ‘Turbo Grafx 16’ might not be the final name of the record.
