Kanye didn't know who Max B was when he retitled his album 'Waves'
Kanye West and Nas feature on ‘Figure It Out’, a track taken from French Montana’s new mixtape ‘Wave Gods’. The mixtape was released last night (February 19), features Future and A$AP Rocky, and was hosted by Max B.
Max B became the centrepoint of a now-resolved Twitter scrap between Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West, over West’s use of Max B’s signature word ‘wavy’ – because in January, West renamed his seventh album ‘Waves’.
On the later retitled album ‘The Life Of Pablo’, West changed the tracklisting to include an interlude called ‘Silver Surfer Intermission’ – a phone call between West and Max B, who is currently serving a 75-year prison sentence – and reintroduced ‘Waves’ after previously removing it from the list.
Speaking about his collaboration with Kanye and Nas yesterday (February 19) on hip-hop radio station Hot 97, French Montana explained that Kanye needed educating on who Max B was. “Kanye didn’t really know who Max B is, which was kind of strange to me when me and him were talking, but once I gave him the homework behind everything, we got it together.”
Since releasing his album, however, Kanye has spoken to French Montana about trying to get Max B out of prison. “He’s probably the first one to call me, outta nowhere, when his album just dropped, like an hour after his album dropped, just asked me, ‘What can we do to get Max B out? Let me use my power to get him out.’ That never happened before, from nobody. So I got a lot of respect for him for that, ’cause you know how much Max B means to me and means to the culture of hip-hop.”
