Unknown rapper Zacari Nicasio disrupted the People's Choice Awards last night
A stage invader inspired by Kanye West disrupted the People’s Choice Awards last night (January 6).
The man, who has been identified as Zacari Nicasio, ran up to the microphone as members of The Talk panel attempted to give their thank you speech after picking up the Favourite Daytime TV Hosting Team
Nicasio shouted “Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman”, a quote from West song ‘FACTS’. The track uses Future and Drake’s ‘Jumpman’ as a sample and sees the rapper state: “Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman”, a shot at rival Nike from the Adidas-affiliated artist. Jumpman is Nike’s Michael Jordan-related merchandise line.
Sharon Osbourne then swiftly kicked him twice before shouting “get the fuck off my stage”. You can watch video footage of the incident below.
Following the incident, Nicasio then told The Hollywood Reporter that he performed the stunt because he wanted people to know who he was and he paid tribute to West, who famously pulled a similar stunt during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during the 2009 VMAs. He added: “I had to shout out who I look up to: Kanye West and Kevin Gates.”
Ed Sheeran was also among the winners on the night scooping the Favourite Male Artist, while Taylor Swift picked up the same award in the female category and was named Favourite Pop Artist. Nicki Minaj picked up the hip-hop equivalent and The Weeknd won Favourite R&B artist. Madonna was named Favourite Music Icon.
Meanwhile, Sandra Bullock took home the Favourite Movie Actress Award, and Johnny Depp was named Favourite Dramatic Movie Actor. Chris Hemsworth won Favourite Action Movie Actor, and Vin Diesel got emotional as he accepted the Favourite Movie and Favourite Action Movie awards for Furious 7.
