Pusha T has described Kanye West’s new album ‘Swish’ as “phenomenal” and said that he hopes to record a new album with West and the rest of the GOOD Music stable.
Pusha T will release new album ‘King Push: Darkness Before Dawn (The Prelude)’ on December 18. Collaborations on the album include Kanye West, Timbaland, J Cole, Q-Tip, A$AP Rocky, Hudson Mohawke, Boi-1da and DJ Mano. Plus guest appearances from Jill Scott, Future, Beanie Sigel and singer Kehlani.
Speaking to Rolling Stone about his new music, talk turned to West’s long-awaited follow up to 2013 album ‘Yeezus’, Pusha T described what he has heard as being unlike anything the rapper has recorded before.
“I haven’t worked on it at all, but everything I’ve heard is phenomenal and it has nothing to do with any of the other records that were released before,” he said. “That’s all I can really say about it. He’s super meticulous about the messaging about his album but you guys are in for a treat.”
Having recently been made president of GOOD Music, Pusha T is also keen to get the artists signed to the label (Big Sean, 2 Chainz, John Legend and Mos Def among others) together to record the follow up to their 2012 album ‘Cruel Summer’.
“That’s definitely on my mood board,” he said. “I’m totally on that and I’m going to make that happen. That is a goal of mine and I reach my goals.”
In September Kanye West offered fans an update on the status of new album ‘Swish’, admitting that it could be another year until the album is released.
West has previously suggested that the follow up to ‘Yeezus’ would arrive this year. However, it has so far failed to materialise despite the release of single ‘All Day’ in March.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, West described ‘Swish’ as being a “two-year painting” and admitted that he could still be working on the record in another 12 months. “I’ve been doing that [making a new album] too,” he said. “That’s like a sonic landscape, a two-year painting.”
West recently debuted new song ‘Fade’ at a New York Fashion Week event – another track that has been in development for some time. “That song I played has been a year and a half in the making and it may be still a year from being complete,” West says. “But it was to let people get a glimpse at the painting.”
In a recent interview with NME, Rihanna revealed that she is waiting for West to be free so she can finish recording her new album with him. Similarly, Justin Bieber has said that he too is working with West on new music that boasts a “New York vibe.”
